Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Basavaraj Saraiah on Thursday stated that the Telangana leaders oppose tooth and nail declaring Hyderabad as Union Territory.
Talking to media persons, Basavaraj Saraiah said that the proposal of making Hyderabad as union territory and separate Telangana state without Hyderabad was not acceptable to region people under any circumstances. However, he said that the leaders are ready to accept the Rayala Telangana, formed with the merger of four districts in Rayalaseema region.
Basvaraj expressed confidence that the Congress high command would focus its attention on Telangana statehood issue once the Presidential elections completed in July and find a solution.
Government chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy said that the Congress leaders have received hints from the Centre that it was in favour of forming Rayala Telangana. However, he admitted that whatever decision the High command take on the bifurcation of state issue the Congress leaders would abide to it.
