Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Tuesday stated that the JAC would oppose the Centre’s proposed move to establish Regional Councils with functional autonomy.

Talking to media persons, Kodandaram said that the establishment of regional councils with liberal financial package would not serve the purpose and justice could be done to the Telangana only through the formation of separate State. He called upon the district and mandal JACs to oppose the establishment of regional councils and create awareness among people on the issue.

Since the beginning of agitation, the JAC was opposed to set up of regional councils and financial package for backward areas development, he pointed out. Stating that regional councils will not serve purpose, he demanded the Centre to announce its decision on Telangana state formation. He called upon the district and mandal JACs to organise protest march in their respective areas on Wednesday.

In protest against the government's failure to honour the promises that it made with the employees during the general strike period, Prof Kondadaram said that the employees would picket District Collectorates in Telangana region on March 3. The JAC would stage dharna in front of Rangareddy district on March 5, he said and added the JAC would also organize 'Chalo Hyderabad' on March 20. He said that the JAC would extend full support to employees’ agitations.
