The Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday tried to corner the Congress over the reluctance of the Centre to order a CBI probe into allegations of corruption raised against YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy by saying that the Centre’s silence was confounding.

Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, Telugu Desam Party general secretary Varla Ramaiah said that the reluctance of the Centre to order a comprehensive probe into the corruption allegations against Mr Jaganmohan Reddy were a sure sign that the two parties had a ‘monitory understanding.’

Mr Ramaiah further alleged that the highest echelons of the Congress party were involved in this monitory understanding.

The TDP leader was reacting to the counter-affidavits filed by Mr Jaganmohan Reddy in the state High Court against the petitions that had been filed against him.

“Why is Mr Jaganmohan Reddy objecting to a CBI probe against him? And why is the Centre reluctant to proceed with the probe? There must be a link,” Mr Ramaiah said.

He added that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s reluctance to face a CBI probe was by itself evidence that there was something fishy. The TDP leader further tried to rope in Congress president Sonia Gandhi into the fray by saying that by her silence, she was raising suspicions that she was protecting the YSR Congress president.

“There is something more to the happenings in the recent past which meets the eye. The recent developments during the election of Assembly Speaker prove that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy is indirectly extending cooperation to the state government to buy its silence and not order a probe into his assets,” the TDP leader stated.
