Kollywood action hero Vishal who scored resounding hits in the early days of his career is now languising in the string of flops churning out routine actioners. To the top of it, his film Madha Gaja Raja, release was delayed for 12 long years due to legal issues. Finally the film which released during Pongal in Tamil Nadu turned out to be a surprise hit. Madha Gaja Raja story revoles around group of friends who reunite at a wedding and their joy turns out to be a utter chaos and into crisis. Raja (Vishal) attends a marriage where he reunites with his friends like Kalyana Sundaram (Santhanam), Ramesh (Sadagoppan Ramesh), Shanmugam (Nithin Sathya). As the events pass by, he comes to know about some interesting and surprising developments in his friends' lives. Where this leads to and how business tycoon Karukuvel Vishwanath (Sonu Sood), Madhavi (Anjali), Maya (Varalakshmi Sarathkumar) and others are connected form the interesting part of the narration.

Vishal's Madha Gaja Raja: Artists Review

Vishal not only excelled in action and romantic scenes but also entertained with his hilarious scenes. Vishal with his energetic screen presence added value to the story. Anjali and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar indulged in glamor treat to attract the masses. Anjali looked cute and bubbly and impressed in traditional attire while Varalakshmi Sarathkumar surprises all with her no holds barred glamor feast.

Sonu Sood made his presence felt in the role of an antagonist. Manobala, Santhanam and Manivannan entertained with their comedy. Others performed according to their roles. The cameos of Arya and Sada surprises all.

Sundar C's Madha Gaja Raja: Technicians Review

Madha Gaja Raja story penned by Sundar C has an outdated feel. One can find out easily that the film has old shades and things got complicated when the film's release got delayed by 12 long years. Viewers who watch the film should keep in mind that the story was written and filmed keeping the sensitive in 2012 and then only they can enjoy it to an extent.

Sundar C is known for his hilarious scenes though the story turned out to be ordinary. It is known that the Sundar pays more importance to the comedy rather than the story. Even in this film, Sundar played the same template and included hilarious scenes. Sundar took movie lovers to a nostalgia recreating Manobala and Manivannan and the scenes featuring Santhanam and Manobala takes viewers down the memory lane.

The female characters, Anjali and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar turned out to be mere caricatures. They are just there to add up the glamor quotient. At times one gets a feeling that the comedy is cringe and regressive and the film also looks incorrect politically.

Sundar C one gets a feeling that viewers love only the derogatory and puerile jokes and in the process he turned everything to sexism and objectification. If one ignores that, they can enjoy the first half which is quite entertaining. But the story lacks cohesion as Sundar did not pay attention to the story or the script but only concentrated on entertaining with hilarious scenes. The second half continues in the same vein but comedy takes a back seat for sometime with the emotions of friendship is highlighted and preclimax scenes workout with the predictable and entertaining comedy. The film ends with a routine climax with a twist. Sundar's screenplay is good and direction is intact.

The music of Vijay Antony added value to the film. The songs are nostalgic and he also unearthed the singing talent of Vishal. His background music is in sync with the story. Richard M Nathan's cinematography is colorful and turned the film visually appealing. The editing of Praveen KL and NB. Srikanth is ok but could have been better as there are many drags. Production values are decent.

Altogether, Madha Gaja Raja is a routine, comedy crapper coming out from Kollywood. Sundar C followed the tried and tested template with which he scored hits and once again he managed to create a laughing riot in the theaters. Vishal excelled in his role, be it romance, action or comedy and endeared himself to all. Thus Sundar C emerged successful in entertaining viewers taking them to a nostalgic ride with Vishal and bringing back memories of Manobala and Manivannan with hilarious scenes. Considering all these, CineJosh goes with a rating of 2.5 for Madha Gaja Raja.
