Ram Gopal Varma despite receiving flak for coming up with pointless films is trying to cash in making controversial films of late. There was lots of drama before the release of Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu. He even needed to change the film’s title. He penned the script along with Karun Venkat and gave the direction responsibility to Siddharth Thatholu. Will this film end flop streak of RGV?
In the recently concluded elections, Babu’s Velugu Desam Party faces humiliating defeat wherein RCP’s Jagannadha Reddy forms the government and he becomes new CM of the state. When Babu and his son Chinna Babu were looking for the opportunity to defame Jagan and his government, a brutal murder of the opposition leader’s close aide Ramana happens in Vijayawada city. Who’s behind this murder? Who will win the elections after Jagan dissolve his government? What’s the role of Kalyan and PP John in the AP politics?
RGV is a specialist in grabbing media and public attention. He made Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu as a fictional film based on the original political leaders in AP. Of course, the story is completely fictional, although characters imitate the original politicians. The film’s trailers indeed raised expectations. But, the film has no potential content other than what was shown in the promos. We feel incompleteness everywhere because of poor writing and pathetic direction. Particularly, second half is intolerable with forcibly included scenes. Cinematography by Jagadeesh Cheekati is the only positive aspect in the film, wherein music by Ravi Shankar is pretty ordinary. Had Anwar Ali worked properly, the final run time would have been close to a short film. Production values are somehow better compared to RGV’s previous film Lakshmi’s NTR.
Onto performances, Dhananjay Prabhune who played the role of Babu looked apt for the role, but he disappoints with expressionless acting. Ajmal Ameer who played Jagan impresses imitating the original character. The Jabardasth artist who was seen as PP John and a newcomer who essayed Chinna Babu were funny. The one who played Kalyan was okay. Brahmanandam was wasted for a role for which a junior artist was more than enough. Ali brings laughs in one scene as assembly speaker.

Excess Criticism
RGV did not direct the film. But, he penned the story and screenplay along with Karun Venkat. Siddharth Thatholu is given the responsibility to direct the film. But, none of these three have done their jobs proficiently. Neither the writing part, nor the direction was brainy. Even the spoofs were badly dealt, except for few episodes.
First half begins on interesting note with Jagan winning the elections over Babu and the premise promises us of a political drama. But, nothing of the sorts happens. Characters come and go purposelessly. Mana Sena leader Kalyan and PP John’s characters are included for comic relief. But, the characters are unjustified. Chinna Babu’s character one way or another provides some entertainment. Babu and Ramana’s episodes are gripping by some means.
Second half where the film needed to pick up the momentum, things go at snail-paced. The repetitiveness in John and Kalyan’s characters will bother us to the core. The probability of involvement of Chinna Babu’s wife looks irrelevant. Swapna and Mahesh Kathi further test our patience in the name of comedy. Finally, the movie ends on horrific note with RGV in an interview briefing his views on the murder.
All in all, Amma Rajyamlo Kadapa Biddalu is a badly made film in all the aspects from writing to direction. We hardly find any positives in the film. RGV who somewhat impressed with his last movie has come up with another bad film. CJ goes with 1 star rating and the film is tough to survive at box office.
