Will PS1 Reach That Mark

Maniratnam's Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 based on Kalki's book on the same name has created history in Tamil Nadu by emerging as Industry Hit. It is the first Tamil film which crossed 200 crore mark and it is also the fastest Tamil film to reach 100 crores mark. It breached into 100 crores club within five days of its release. It was screened round the clock during the first week in some centers at Tamil Nadu to meet the massive demand for tickets from the audiences. 

PS1 crosses Rs 225 Crores gross in Tamil Nadu state alone. It crossed Rs 480+ crores worldwide including huge Rs 163+ crores it accumulated from overseas market. Though it is reported that more screens are added for the film last Friday, it seems tough to touch 500 cr mark as the film is already out on OTT in Amazon Prime. Needless to say that Ponniyin Selvan has created sensation in Tamil Nadu. It even stands at Top 3 place in India's highest grossers in 2022 after KGF 2 & RRR. It crosses Brahmāstra's Rs 431 crores and Vikram's Rs 445 crores to enter Top 3. 

Mani Ratnam in a recent interaction said  that the second part of the franchise will release in cinemas in another six to nine months. The team is currently busy with the post-production work. Both films were shot simultaneously. Lyca Productions produced these films on a massive scale.
