When the makers of Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Godfather and King Nagarjuna's The Ghost slated their films for release on October 5 targeting the Dasara festival season, many expected that as the release date approached, either Nagarjuna or Chiranjeevi intervene and avert the box office clash. However, with both Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna confirming that their films will release on October 5, not only Mega fans and Akkineni fans but also movie lovers got shocked.
Some even questioned the existence of the Producers Guild which actively forced the small filmmakers to change their films' release dates. Rumors earlier felt that Chiranjeevi after the Acharya debacle doesn't want to miss the Dasara season at any cost to score a resounding hit, while Nagarjuna is keen to go by his evergreen cult classic Shiva release date and release The Ghost on the same date.
Under these circumstances, people are left wondering where all the so-called bonhomie between Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna disappeared. It is known that Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna are thick friends and they never indulged in box office clashes. Even Chiranjeevi, if he doesn't want to miss the Dasara season could have released his film Godfather one day ahead or one day after The Ghost release. But both Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna are not backing off.
Now inside talk is there is a reason behind Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi's obstinate stand. They are scared as both Godfather and The Ghost have similar storylines. People may wonder where are the similarities as Godfather is a political thriller and The Ghost is a spy thriller. However, both are loaded with sister sentiment and in both cases, brothers come forward to save their sisters even though their sisters do not accept them and are not on good terms with them and their relations are strained. This can be noticed in the teaser and trailer of both films.
In Godfather, Chiranjeevi comes out of his exile to save his estranged sister Nayanthara when she is in big political trouble. Similar to The Ghost, Nagarjuna who is an Interpol spy, comes to save his sister Gul Panag from the dreaded terrorists and underground mafia. Both Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna feel that even a second delay in the films will bring in comparisons and badly affect the film's performance at the box office. Under these circumstances, Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna, despite sharing good bonhomie and feelings in their hearts for each other, are forced to go in for the box office clash turning Godfather and The Ghost.
