Several projects get launched as bilinguals in Tamil and Telugu, but more often than not, the output tends to suffer in one language. From dubbing problems to nativity issues and production problems, most bilinguals don’t shape up the way the makers visualise it to be. Sundeep Kishan’s home production Ninuveedani Needanu Nene, directed by Caarthik Raju, that released in mid-2019, was also launched as a bilingual and slated to release in Tamil simultaneously. However, the Tamil version, Kannadi is seeing the light of the day nearly two years after the Telugu release.
The horror film passed muster in Telugu and was praised for its unique treatment of the genre. During the lockdown, there were several rumours that Kannadi may settle for an OTT release. Surprisingly, the makers have gone ahead for a theatrical release and the trailer of the film was launched by Gambler, Saroja director Venkat Prabhu recently.
Actress Anya Singh, supporting actor Murali Sharma, Malavika, Karthick Naren, Poornima Bhagyaraj will be reprising the same roles in Tamil while Karunakaran essays the role that Vennela Kishore had played in Ninuveedani Needanu Nene. It’s rather odd for a film to have a two-year gap between the release in two languages, especially when Ninuveedani Needanu Nene is already available on OTT. Sundeep Kishan’s other release is A1 Express, a hockey-centric film, ready to hit theatres on March 5.
