Sharwanand repeating himself?

Actor Sharwanand has earned his stature in the Telugu film industry the hard way. Carefully choosing unique scripts that help him distinguish from the rest, the actor took several risks and earned a minimum-guarantee trust from the family audiences over the years. After a spate of serious and story-driven films, Run Raja Run, Express Raja, Mahanubhavudu proved his potential with comedy and commercial films. However, after three consecutive flops Padi Padi Leche Manasu, Ranarangam and Jaanu, it’s extremely important Sreekaram clicks for the actor.

The teaser of Sreekaram, though, has proved to be a bummer. It’s like every second Telugu film where the hero preaches lengthy dialogues about agriculture and wants to be the messiah of change. The trailer has already shown similarities with Khaidi No. 150, Maharshi. Even in Shatamanam Bhavati, Sharwanand is shown to be a young farmer who uses his technical knowledge to bring advancements in the field of agriculture. Sreekaram yet again raises the issue that the urban lot has been ignorant about its roots.

It's appreciable that agriculture is the focus of many Telugu movies, but aren’t there any newer stories to tell about farmers? Many films on farming take convenient cinematic liberties to offer solutions to agricultural problems. These are preachy and not realistic either. But given the focus on farm laws and protests recently, Sreekaram’s timing may just work in its favour. Sharwanand till Malli Malli Idi Raani Roju was ahead of many actors in terms of his script choices. However, just when the industry is in the cusp of change, the actor is choosing routine, safe stories. One expects more from an actor of his potential!
