Senior actor banks on young talent

Actor Rajasekhar who made a smashing return to form with Praveen Sattaru’s PSV Garuda Vega is consistently relying on young directors to deliver the goods. Not many expected much from Garuda Vega at the time of its release, but its success seems to have taught some important lessons to the Ankusam actor. Since then, the actor has shown no signs of a hurry, having had only one release – Kalki – where he trusted Prasanth Varma, a one-film old director then. Despite the film not emerging successful at the box office, the actor’s faith in young directors hasn’t diminished.

After successfully battling COVID-19, Rajasekhar has now signed two films, Shekar and another project with Poola Rangadu director Veerabhadram. Shekar, a remake of the Malayalam film Joseph, is being directed by a debutant Lalith Kumar. Veerabhadram, despite having assisted several filmmakers for many years, has only directed four films.   Rajasekhar’s planning to work on both films simultaneously. A senior actor’s trust in relatively young directors is surely a sign of hope for new-age storytellers and that their ideas would find acceptance.

At a point of time, Rajasekhar was working with every top director in the business – K Viswanath, B Gopal, Kodi Ramakrishna, K Raghavendra Rao, Ravi Raja Pinisetty, Muthyala Subbiah to name a few. However, the 2000s weren’t particularly great for the actor where he couldn’t adapt with the times and changing tastes. All those moments of self-introspection have come in handy for the senior actor who now has a thing or two to prove to this generation of audience.
