Satellite used to be the second biggest business for films after theatrical business. But, the OTT resolution has turned a bane for TV channels and also to theatres. Couple of years ago, at least there was an agreement that, producers should not release their films on OTT platforms within seven weeks after theatrical release. But, they are not following the rule of late.
Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja’s blockbuster film Krack that was released for Sankranthi will be hitting the OTT plotform Aha on 5th of this month. The film was planned for release on Aha last week only. But, after considering the request of exhibitors, the release has been pushed by a week.
Since, there is no other noted film is available to watch in theatres and also with all the recent releases getting negative talk, Krack is still doing decent business. However, the theatrical business is coming to an end in most of the areas, as it will be streaming on Aha in a couple of days.
For the safety of distributors and exhibitors, filmmakers should rethink of early release of OTT. Already corona and the lockdown hit the exhibition business badly. Now, OTT has become a curse for them!
