Till sometime back, Tollywood heroines at the peak of their career never used to star in the roles of character artist roles, particularly as mothers. But now young heroines are breaking the rules to become on screen moms.
It is known that recently Keerthy Suresh starred as a mother in her latest film Penguin. She readily agreed to star in the role as she felt it tested her acting talent. Karthic Easwar who directed Penguin said Keerthy was impressed with the storyline.
Priyamani played the role of the mother in Family Man web-series. She said earlier actresses had some doubts of getting labelled as on screen mothers and so shied away from doing them. She says times have changed now. She said she had no apprehensions in doing the role but added that she is not open for all kinds of mother roles.
Producer Naga Vamsi said he put in lot of effort to convince Shraddha Srinath to turn mother in Jersey, a blockbuster film. He said Shradda did not want to start her Tollywood debut playing the mother role. He said they approached other actresses also but they were even more reluctant than Shraddha.
Shruti Haasan will be seen as mother to a young kid in Ravi Teja's Krack and Nayanthara too appeared as mother in a Tamil film. Still there are many heroines like Nayanthara, Trisha, Anushka, Kajal and Tamannaah who are keen to play glamor roles romancing top stars. Keerthy Suresh played the role of mother in Mahanati, biopic on legendary actress Savitri, as well.
