2020 First Half: Highest Grossers, AVPL Tops

2020 had started on grand note for Tollywood with sankranthi biggies stylish star Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramloo and superstar Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru turning out to be massive hits. While the Trivikram Srinivas directorial ended up as a non Baahubali hit, the Anil Ravipudi directed film stood as biggest grosser for Mahesh Babu.

Kalyan Ram’s Entha Manchivaadavuraa that was released during the festival turned out as a disaster. Disco Raja and Aswathama were released in the same month and became commercial failures.

Except for Nithin’s Bheeshma, all the other films released in February including Vijay Deverakonda’s World Famous Lover ended up as flops. Only, Vishwak Sen’s HIT became an average grosser.

The flop streak continued in March as well. Although Palasa 1978 got decent reviews, the film failed to become a commercial hit. And, as we all know, towards end of March, lockdown was imposed across the country as to contain the spread of corona virus.

All in all, 2020 first half disappoints Telugu film industry as well as the movie buffs big time. There are two disaster films in top 5 list showing the pitiable condition of the industry. Here is the list of top 5 grossers in first half of 2020.

2. Sarileru Neekevvaru- 125.98 Cr

3. Bheeshma- 28 Cr

4. World Famous Lover- 10.15 Cr

5. Disco Raja- 7.46 Cr
