There’s huge debate over direct Ott release of Telugu films ever since Corona Lockdown was implemented a month ago. While some support the idea of direct release in Ott platforms, others raise their objections over the same. But, film analysts are f the opinion that, small to medium range films should go for direct digital release.
On the other hand, filmmakers who prefer direct Ott release may get objection from theater owners. This practice will indirectly affect the theater business, thus they may object this proposal. Earlier, when Kamal Haasan planned direct digital release, exhibitors and others slammed him. The star hero was forced to release his film in theaters.
Meanwhile, Jyotika's upcoming film, Ponmagal Vandhal, directed by JJ Fredrick, that was scheduled to hit the theatres on March 27th, will reportedly have its digital premiere in May. Following the news, the film's production house, Suriya's 2D Entertainment is facing the wrath of the Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association. They threaten to ban any film involving Suriya or his production house.
Apparently, Telugu filmmakers will also witness the same issue, if they prefer Ott release. But, they need to have a talk with theaters association, before inking any deals with Ott Players.
