Mahanati directed by Nag Ashwin and starring Keerthy Suresh is the only true blockbuster among biopics in recent times. People rejected even NTR biopic which was made as two parts- NTR Kathanayakudu and NTR Mahanayakudu. Despite massive expectations, the film ended up as utter flop.
Biopics are worth made only when a person has many ups and downs in his personal and professional life. Of course, there were my controversies surrounding NTR. But, Balakrishna showed only positive aspects. RGV’s version of NTR biopic- Lakshmi’s NTR was also a flop owing to poor writing and making.
Director Mahi V Raghav came up with biopic on former CM late YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as Yatra. The film stood as an average grosser at box office, thanks to huge support from YSRCP leaders and activists.
Now, Raghav is planning to make Yatra 2- biopic of current CM of Andhra Pradesh- YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. “If Jagan anna gives his nod, we will kick start the project in 2022 or 2023,” said director who has plans to release it in 2024, just ahead of the next elections.
Does Jagan’s life really worth making as a film. Jagan came to power with thumping majority after facing defeat in the first attempt.
More than anything else, anti-incumbency worked in favor of YS Jagan. Although there are some good policies and schemes announced and implemented by Jagan, his life is full of controversies.
YS Jagan was arrested in disproportionate assets case and he regularly appears before court. There are many other allegations against him.
However, Mahi V Raghav will be showing only Padayatra episode of YS Jagan, rather than covering all the major incidents in the latter’s life. In that case this biopic will end up as NTR biopic.
There’s no question of Jagan refusing to make his biopic. But, the question is will Raghav show dark side of Jagan as well?
