Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said that the State Government was taking up the construction of double bedroom housing scheme in a very transparent manner and assured that there was no scope for irregularities in the housing scheme.

Speaking on the issue of weaker section housing in the Legislative Assembly, Chandrasekhar Rao said that the government would select the beneficiaries of the housing scheme through a draw of lots. Earlier, there were massive irregularities in the housing schemes where beneficiaries were selected through political interference. Crores of rupees were embezzled in the name of beneficiaries, he added.

The Chief Minister said that there would be no political involvement in the selection of beneficiaries and the process would be transparent where only officials will oversee the selection of beneficiaries through draw of lots.

Chandrasekhar Rao said that the MLAs would be authorized to select villages and added that the district Collectors would supervise the construction of houses in the housing scheme. He also said that the construction of houses under the schemes was going on in a brisk pace in Hyderabad and added that about 650 acres of land have been identified in the capital city for the housing scheme.

The Chief Minister said that all regions would be given equal importance in allocation of houses and added that 400 houses would be allocated to each Assembly constituency on pilot basis. He said that the government would provide free sand while cement was also being procured from the cement firms on low prices. He said that the houses under the project would be built on pillars so that the occupants can further carry on construction in future if required.

Chandrashekar Rao said that the construction of houses would be done with quality parameters. Stating that the government had sanctioned 2, 60,000 houses, he informed that the tender process was going on. The tenders were finalized for 14,224 houses and as many as 1,217 houses were constructed. At present 9,588 houses were in construction stage at various places in the state, he said.
