Senior TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Thursday demanded that the Telangana Government increase the ex-gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicide to Rs. 5 lakh.
Speaking to media persons here, Errabelli alleged that hundreds of farmers have committed suicide due to the wrong policies of TRS Government. He said presently Telangana ranks second in the country in cases of farmers' suicides. He said neighbouring Andhra Pradesh State has increased the ex-gratia amount to Rs. 5 lakh and the Telangana Government should follow the suit. He also slammed the TRS Government for not fulfilling the crop loan waiver promise. He said many farmers could not get crop insurance as its deadline ends on Friday.
Errabelli said farmers across Telangana were in distress as they lost their crops due to bad monsoon. He said other farmers were not getting adequate price for their produce. He reminded that while in opposition T Harish Rao visited the Market Yards and launch a strong protest. However, despite holding the portfolio of Marketing, Harish Rao has failed to ensure better price to the farmers for their produce.
