Director Teja is known for his free and frank talk. He expresses his views in a realistic and authentic manner. Participating in a discussion, he spoke about what is ailing the Indian cinema.
He said more than anything, the rates of the snacks like Popcorn, Coke and others are killing the cinema in the theatres. He said people often complain that popcorn rates are double or triple that of the ticket rates in the theatres and that's why they have stopped coming to theaters to watch films.
He said one should address this issue rather then blame OTTs for the people not watching films in theatres. He had he himself is used to watching films in theatres having coke and popcorn. He added that the exorbitant rates killed the Bollywood cinema in Mumbai
However few are disagreeing with Teja. They point out that when successful films are getting streamed on OTTs with in a month of theatrical release, flouting the set rules, who will watch the film in theatres. They also point out that ticket rates of even small heroes films are fixed at Rs300 and that's preventing people from coming to theaters. They point out that when AP government put a cap on ticket rates in theatres, film industry opposed it tooth and nail though people thronged the theatres. They say, film industry should sort out those issues rather than try to find lame excuses.
