Accusing the state government of adopting a discriminatory attitude towards farmers from Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi Floor leader Etala Rajender on Friday led his party activists in a dharna in front of Agriculture Commissionarate, Basheerbagh, demanding adequate supply of cotton seeds to farmers in the region. Mr Rajender told the gathering during the protest that the state government has failed on all fronts in addressing the farmers’ woes. He lashed out at the state government for its failure to supply cotton seeds in adequate quantity to farmers in the Telangana region despite the start of monsoon. “This is nothing but discrimination against the farmers. Despite the monsoon season having set in, the government has ignored the Telangana farmers. At the same time, the farmers in Seemandhra regions have been supplied the cotton seed even though the monsoon is yet to set in there,” Mr Rajender told the gathering. Alleging that the government was creating artificial shortage of seeds, he stated that the farmers are forced to buy seeds at higher price from the open market. The TRS leader warned that the state government will pay a heavy price if it continues to be biased against the Telangana farmers. “The state government has to act and make sincere efforts to provide succor to the farmers by supplying seeds and fertilizers immediately,” he warned. He insisted that the government opens its eyes and looks into Telangana farmers’ problems, who are in deep financial crises due to its own anti-farmer attitude.
